When the Samaritan woman spoke to Jesus of her people worshipping God by a mountain and the Jews worshipping God in the temple in Jerusalem, He didn't say, "Oh yes we Jews have got it right, you should worship in Jerusalem." No He told her that the Father wanted people to worship Him in spirit and in truth. Most of the people who built great cathedrals were not worshipping in spirit and in truth. They were glorifying themselves. They didn't even have the decency to help with the manual labour, but watched as others not only risked life and limb, but also gave life and limb in the construction of these spiritual monstrosities. The cathedrals may look beautiful to some but spiritually they have no worth at all. Jesus said that the temple in Jerusalem which was renowned for its beauty, was soon to be destroyed and He didn't say, "What a shame." No, Jesus is interested in our worshipping Him in spirit and in truth. Mostly that means what we are like when we are alone with Him, when there are no other people to impress, just you and Jesus. Is your worship of Him then, in spirit and in truth. It isn't about you praying in the prayer meeting or preaching from the pulpit which can just be to impress your peers. No it is about you alone with Jesus. Can you cope with that?
Every time I take a few days off from my blog my ratings slump. Very rarely do people go back into my old posts and read again. This is a typical attitude of the human heart, always wanting something different. At this time of year we should not be greedily wondering want new thing we will be getting for Christmas. Instead we should be looking at the old, old story, which is ever new of a baby who amazingly was God incarnate, God's gift to those who will put there trust in this one who was to grow up to give His life for His people. Set aside the controversy over whether December 25th is the actual date of His birth.(Shepherds do not keep their sheep out at night in Israel in December.) and set aside time to think about the fact that He did come and ponder if He came to set you free and if your answer is ,"Yes," He will make you free indeed.
