Tips on helping a depressed friend

I have had bouts of depression in the past, so I understood the problem when my friend became depressed. One thing about her I do not understand. She wants to be with people all the time when she is feeling bad, whereas I like to hide myself away, preferably in bed. My friend decided she couldn't cope at home any more and got herself admitted to hospital. She was taken to a hospital 30 miles away which was not very suitable because the patients there were suffering from dementia. After four days she was moved to a centre much nearer home. The problem is in England that care in the community (that is, at home) is now the norm and there are very few hospital places for mental health patients.Sometimes a patient wants to stop the world and get off. It is at such times that hospital admission is needed. The old Victorian psychiatric hospitals were often not the best solution, but things have swung too far. Presumably care in the community is a cheaper option. I hope to visit

A "new" car

I have a few moments to spare so I thought I would tell you about the car I bought last Thursday. It's a Toyota Yaris Verso automatic. It's the first time I've bought a car for myself. It's a W reg new in 2000, so not very wonderful by many people's standards, but I think it is great. My previous car, a P reg Peugeot was oozing oil all over the place and having to be topped up more and more, so it had to go. I find my left knee is really benefitting from not having to use a clutch. I'm surprised at what a difference it is making. I am 66 so getting on a bit. The seats are at a height that I can just slip into them and out again easily. People tell me automatics use more petrol. I usually use about £40 of petrol in a fortnight, so I will be keeping an eye on things, but of course, I'm committed now.I've been reading up in the manual how to get the best fuel consumption out of the car, so that should help. Used to have a Toyota Carina and that l

So Much Real Life

I love to share with you folks but at the moment I have so much going on in my life. A friend has been admitted to hospital with clinical depression and she has two dogs for whom i have had to arrange accommodation. She has been admitted to a hospital 40 miles away and I will need to get clean clothes to her soon.So it's all go at the moment. I have to move the dogs again tomorrow to a more suitable place. When real life calls we have to forget the internet, so I hope you will all forgive me for not writing here so much. I will get back to you when I can. Meanwhile keep looking up for your salvation draws near.
