When we lose a loved one it is natural to wonder how they are faring in the next life. I would warn against going to a medium to find out. At worst these people are charlatans after your money, the rest misguided or worse. We are told in the Bible not to try to reach the dead. The best person to call on in this situation is Jesus. That's right, go to the top. He is always available through prayer and doesn't make a charge. All he requires is that you look for him with all your heart. He has the answers to all of life's difficult questions.
I have written in previous posts about disasters. In the case of Concorde, decisions by people, plus other factors were directly to blame for the event. In the case of the Penlee disaster it may have been avoided if someone had made a better choice in the time beforehand and as a consequence brave men and the ship's crew and the captain and his family died. 9/11 was certainly the result of wicked men committing a terrorist act, but even in this there was heroism notably by another Cornish man, Rick Rescorla who helped many to safety and left it too late to help himself. In situations like this we see what the human spirit is capable of both good and evil. What of disasters that come on people because of the earth restless movement of tectonic plates. Often people live near volcanoes because the land is rich and fertile and they have the chance of a better life there when the volcano is resting. We cannot blame them for that but sometimes people become complacent...

ReplyDeleteYou are misinformed. True, there are many charlatans out there posing as mediums, but there are some true mediums. Jesus was the greatest of mediums. What the Bible warns against is speaking with the "spiritually dead," which referred to earthbound or low-level spirits. In the translation from Greek to English, the word came out "dead" only. There are spirits who are not earthbound. Most of the Bible is based on mediumship of one kind or another. Moses getting the 10 Commandments was by means of direct-writing mediumship.
Forgot to mention above that in John, we are told to "test the spirits" to determine whether they are of God. How can we test them and discern the messages if we don't listen to them in the first place?
ReplyDeleteGood to hear your views Michael. It gets a bit lonely here on the internet sometimes. Nice to know there is someone there. I think the whole purpose of dying is to have finished with this life and therefore the worst thing one can do is to disturb the dead. We have had plenty of time to learn from them while they were here, and plenty of memories too.

ReplyDeleteThey are not "disturbed." Many of them are around us and assisting us. Most of them are very frustrated that we ignore them and do not take their help. Of course, there are many "spiritually dead" or earthbound spirits trying to influence us in a negative way. That's where "testing the spirits" and "discernment" come into play. The "disturbing the dead" approach sounds like some evangelical teaching based on a literal interpretation of the Bible. So much of the Bible has been distorted by religious fundamentalists who fear that their authority will be usurped by more intelligent interpretations.
I expect we will just have to accept that we disagree Michael. Of course there are charlatans in the "christian" church too. You are right there, sadly. Thank you for dropping by with your comments.
