Democracy at Village Level?

About a year ago I went to a Parish Council meeting in my village.  There is great pressure here to allow more and more building of houses in the village which is threatening to spoil the village and also over stretch the infra-structure.  The sewage system is stretched, the school is full and the doctor's surgery is not able to cope with more people.  Also the roads cannot cope with more traffic.  At the meeting there was a man from the District council with a power point presentation.  He said that most develpoment would be in three towns in the district.  Apparently our village would only have five more houses built in the next ten years.  It sounded ideal.  But gradually we realized that no matter what we said everything could just turn around and we would have as many houses as the government wanted.  This is what they call consultation!  But if you don't attend these meetings they can just say no one is bothered.  We now have ...

Democracy – What Democracy?

In the West we pride ourselves on being democratic. I can only speak about Britain.   Recently we had a referendum in which the majority voted to leave Europe.   This obviously should mean that we leave Europe.   However for all the talk of “Brexit means brexit” very little appears to have changed.   It would not surprise me in the least if slowing the process and double dealing end in a Brexit which is unrecognisable from what the people intended to happen. Of course democracy is an ideal which is not totally realisable.   As they say whoever you vote for you always get the Government.   In recent years the political parties have been very like each other and so there is no effective opposition. I’m glad my trust is in Jesus, as governments can never be totally trusted.   If I didn’t know that God reigns and is in complete control of all things I would be a very worried woman.

The Hypocrisy of the West (2)

The West shouts loudly when little countries seem to be developing the bomb.   I would prefer that they should not have it too.   They talk of the bomb being in the hands of mad men.   They frighten us with scare stories about North Korea.   But which country is the only one that has ever used the bomb against another country? Yes, it’s the U.S.A. they are the ones who thought it was a good tactic to end World War 2.   They have the form, they could do it again; and what about “aggressive” Russia?   They have the bomb but have never used it. We should never just accept what our BBC news tells us as the truth.   It is just one version of the events being played out. It is useful to listen to other view points, this is easily done now on the internet.   Hearing another point of view helps one sort out what is really happening; or at least shows what a lot of liars there are in the world.

The Hypocrisy of the West

I do not agree with everything that Russia does in its foreign policy but I believe the treatment Britain and U.S.A meets out to Russia is full of hypocrisy. The government of Syria was as legitimate as many others in the Arab world and as such Russia is supporting them.   All governments are anathema to me at some point or another as they mostly end up serving their own interests even if they don’t start out that way. Since Britain and U.S.A went into Iraq with no good reason and made a huge mess of things so that the situation there is now worse than at the beginning, they have no platform from which to criticize others.   I do not condone Russia annexing Crimea, but how can we complain in Britain with all the years of holding on to Northern Ireland.   Yes there are many in Northern Ireland who want to be British, but similarly in Crimea there are a large number of people who have always considered themselves Russian. I realize that at the moment I am in a Russia...

Who is really mad?

Is it the people who have depression and can only see the black side of things or is it those of us who are filling our lives with trivia?   While they see the true horror of what is happening in our world most of us are collecting gadgets that we feel we must have.   We are frittering our lives away in meaningless activity, all to keep us blinkered from the atrocities of the day. We block our ears and our hearts to the truth about life and fill our days with doing something, anything, to stop us having to face up to the truth.   What is this truth, it is the fact that the world is full of wickedness ranging from the devastation and horror of war which we think in the West we can turn o0ur backs on, to the horror of the killing of unborn babies which is largely condoned in our society, but nevertheless is murder. All this is done by a world that rejects its Creator, denies His existence.   But God is not mocked, whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap. ...

A human being is a human being

The disabled whether physically or mentally are still worthwhile human beings.   God decided that was the way they should be and they have a purpose.   They bring out the love in their families in a very special way.   Whoever said everyone had to be ultra fit and earn their keep.   We are not on this planet to run super economies we are here to help one another and learn from this process and some find God in it.   A shining example of triumph over disaster is the disabled boy from Russia who won their Kids Voice.   That boy sings with such passion born of the suffering he has endured.   I recommend you listen to him on You Tube.   He is an inspiration.   His name is Danil Pluzhnikov. And yet Hitler would have killed him undoubtedly. I fear many of our politicians would like to be rid of all who cannot work, whether from disability or old age.   After all they think what a boost to the economy with no pensions to find or benefi...

When does human life begin?

When a sperm is separate from the egg we can know for certain that life has not begun, but once the sperm enters the egg and the genetic material combines, who is in a position to say that a human life has not begun?   For me that means that early abortion is not the right thing.   Human life is precious from its outset.   Late abortions are simply killing an unborn baby.   How have we become so hardened as to do this or allow it without protest? The Christian church should be speaking out against this horror of wholesale killing of the next generation. But then the Christian church is not what it was.   It pussy foots around all difficult areas in order not to upset people.   I abhor myself for doing so little against this mass murder. It seems to me that abortion is always encouraged without a proper look at an alternative.   I understand there are many childless couples who would love to adopt, but there is a shortage of babies. The mother ...
