You may fast,
observe Lent, go on a pilgrimage, but none of these things will make you better
in God’s eyes. We are told that Jesus is
the only one to make us fit to come to the Father. It is only when we believe that Jesus is the
only one who can forgive us, that only He has the power to put us right with
God that we can know we are accepted by the Father. We can do absolutely
nothing toward our salvation. Oh yes we
have to believe but that also is a gift given to us by the Father. Why are we so stupid as to keep struggling to
put ourselves right. It can’t be
done. As the Father accepts us He will
give us the desire to do good things, but only because we love Him and not to
bring about our salvation. Look at Ephesians 1 and 2 and also John 14 verse 6.
We have this terrific urge to put ourselves right with God but it can’t be
done. It is human rebellion that wants
us to do this. It is the same rebellion
that made Adam and Eve think they knew best when they ate the forbidden fruit
in the garden. Nothing has changed in all
those years. We are still rebelling. Tell a little child not to so something and
what will happen? They will surely do
it. All that talk about man having progressed down the centuries is nonsense,
we haven’t improved one bit. Ask God for forgiveness in Jesus and throw away
your rebellion.
Every time I take a few days off from my blog my ratings slump. Very rarely do people go back into my old posts and read again. This is a typical attitude of the human heart, always wanting something different. At this time of year we should not be greedily wondering want new thing we will be getting for Christmas. Instead we should be looking at the old, old story, which is ever new of a baby who amazingly was God incarnate, God's gift to those who will put there trust in this one who was to grow up to give His life for His people. Set aside the controversy over whether December 25th is the actual date of His birth.(Shepherds do not keep their sheep out at night in Israel in December.) and set aside time to think about the fact that He did come and ponder if He came to set you free and if your answer is ,"Yes," He will make you free indeed.
