It seems great to have a home entertainment centre; all sorts of things to amuse us and while
away the time. There is sport, there is
drama, quiz shows and “reality T.V.” What could be better to watch in the
comfort of our homes? And it seems so
important to keep up with world events, to be in the know about what our
politicians are saying. Would we invite
a poisonous snake or a marauding bull into our homes among our family? The T.V.
is not always, but often an open sewer flooding anti-God propaganda into our
homes. It tells us we need to be young
and beautiful and spend a fortune on face creams and make-up. To put great effort
into building up our bodies, if we are men, and slimming them down to a ridiculous,
not to say unhealthy, tiny weight if we are women. It tells us we should strive to be a pop
singer, which if successful often leads to a lifestyle including drug taking.
Evolution is anti-God and there is plenty about that on the T.V. So think long and hard before you switch on
the T.V. again. And if you do switch it
on try to watch and listen with ears that want to hear what God wants for
you. Be discerning, don’t just lap it
up. Would you drink poison even if it
was laced with your favourite drink?
Would you put poison on the plate with the food your children eat? Maybe
you are allowing the T.V. to fill their heads with values and suggestions you
would prefer them not to hear and see. The T.V. is dangerous.
I watched The Detectorists tonight. I have not watched it before. It is about a group of people who use detecting equipment to discover old coins and other things of archeological interest. This was the last in the series and had a bitter sweet feel to it. One of the main characters asked,"Why do we do it?" and the other replied,"This is the nearest you will ever get to time travel." You have to be an optimist to do metal detecting. There is always the attraction of making a big find or an important discovery. Among all the tin cans and coat hangers found there is the hope of a Saxon hoard, or Roman gold. Optimism keeps them going.
