We have a desire to make things right with God on our own terms, earning our salvation, but this is not possible. Nothing that we can do can blot out the sin that is a part of our nature. God is perfect and demands perfection from us. He says,"Be ye holy for I am holy." You may be a very nice person, better than most, but you cannot reach perfection. Trying to reach God by your own efforts is a huge insult to God because He has provided the only acceptable way for us to come to Him. He sent Jesus to die on the cross ,so that all who believe in Him and accept His sacrifice as the only way back to God, can indeed be brought into fellowship with God. Although other Christians can help us find this way they cannot bring about your belief, this is between you and God. Only He can give you forgiveness and make you His child. He even gives you the faith by which you believe.
First of all thanks to Fat Prophet for your interest. I see from your blog you are having trouble commenting. To get back to my assessed service. Criticism albeit constructive is harder for some to take than others. I felt a little crushed after my assessed service but then remembered I had recorded it on my dictaphone. I listened to it all through and although my assessors were quite right about me speaking a little quickly and rushing from item to item, I was actually very pleased with the content of my sermon and how I presented it. So I have decided to take heart. I highly recommend other trainees to record your services. You can hear your good points and your bad and there is no argument about it, it is all caught on the recorder.
