I have briefly dipped into Wikipedia to refresh my memory of some of Croatia's history. What touches me is the suffering Croatia and many other European countries have had in their history. It humbles me to think that I can express the grace of God to people who have suffered so much when I come from a country that has not suffered occupation since, I think, 1066. We know nothing of the terror of having our country overrun by one faction and then another. I know I have had such a little amount of suffering in my life. It has been a life that has been cushioned on all sides. Instead of me advising you how to trust in God through Jesus I think it would be better for me to hear it from you. I would welcome your comments.
I watched The Detectorists tonight. I have not watched it before. It is about a group of people who use detecting equipment to discover old coins and other things of archeological interest. This was the last in the series and had a bitter sweet feel to it. One of the main characters asked,"Why do we do it?" and the other replied,"This is the nearest you will ever get to time travel." You have to be an optimist to do metal detecting. There is always the attraction of making a big find or an important discovery. Among all the tin cans and coat hangers found there is the hope of a Saxon hoard, or Roman gold. Optimism keeps them going.
