Recently I wrote about slavery, the pitiful state of those
who are taken advantage of and denied the good things in life. However there is a much worse slavery that
affects us all whether we realize it or not and that is the slavery of being
affected by sin. Our ancestors Adam and
Eve rebelled against God their Creator and so introduced sin and its
consequences into the lives of us all.
We have inherited this scourge and it affects all of our lives. The greed that this produces is what leads
people to take advantage of other people.
We may be living outwardly good lives helping others and doing good, but
we are still affected by this sin and sooner or later we find we slip up and do
even things we do not want to do. This poison
needs a cure and the only cure is that provided by Jesus who died on the cross
so that all who put their trust in Him can have that sin completely
forgiven. How amazing! Unfortunately
many of us will not accept this only way back into being right with God. We try to make our own way to heaven by doing
good things and keeping rules. If you
are doing this you are insulting God who has provided the only way back to Him
in Jesus. Stop struggling to gain
brownie points and rest in what Jesus has done for you freely and without
condition.
I have written in previous posts about disasters. In the case of Concorde, decisions by people, plus other factors were directly to blame for the event. In the case of the Penlee disaster it may have been avoided if someone had made a better choice in the time beforehand and as a consequence brave men and the ship's crew and the captain and his family died. 9/11 was certainly the result of wicked men committing a terrorist act, but even in this there was heroism notably by another Cornish man, Rick Rescorla who helped many to safety and left it too late to help himself. In situations like this we see what the human spirit is capable of both good and evil. What of disasters that come on people because of the earth restless movement of tectonic plates. Often people live near volcanoes because the land is rich and fertile and they have the chance of a better life there when the volcano is resting. We cannot blame them for that but sometimes people become complacent...
