Going Viral

I’ve just been reading an article about what makes a blog go viral. I’ve got one advantage from what I have read, I’m a woman. But so far I’ve been writing little short, pithy blogs and going viral mostly happens to longer blogs. Why would I want to go viral? I would like to go viral because I write about knowing God and I want more people to find Him and worship Him in spirit and in truth as He deserves to be worshipped. I am a Local Preacher in the Methodist Church in Britain and my congregations average about twenty people each Sunday. With my blog I could reach millions of people and surely many of them want to hear about the Christian God who sent Jesus to die, so that anyone, throughout the whole world, who will put their trust in Him will be saved, have their wrong doing cleansed away and be ready and fit to spend eternity with Creator God. The Christian God isn’t just for white people, He is for anyone who will turn to Him. He isn’t just for respectable people but for those who have lived on the seamy side of life, but now want something far better. My blog is called “Preaching with a Purpose” and my purpose is to reach out to as many people as possible throughout the world and tell them there is a certain hope for them if they will turn away from the life they are leading and turn to Jesus who will turn no one away, who comes to Him. As I sit at my PC in Devon England it is amazing to think someone the other side of the world might read this and turn to Jesus. I’ve been a Christian since I was seven. May be the whole of my life so far has been leading up to this moment when the simple things I say about faith might touch many through this blog. I also write on Squidoo so if you are interested you can find more of my stuff there. I’ll put a link below. It’s my birthday today and I am 66 years old. I have felt God’s presence with me throughout my life and I long to pass on this knowledge to anyone who will listen. So many pass by and live their lives without the knowledge of God. What an empty existence. If you are a believer, like me I would be very encouraged if you would comment on this blog. Also if you have stopped to think if your life is empty I would like to know. I wonder why I don’t just get on with my knitting and forget about my blog. Knitting isn’t going to reach out to you with the gospel of Jesus. The internet probably won’t be free to all soon and then it will be too late and I won’t be able to tell you that Jesus died to set you free. So when you can hear this message respond and ask Jesus for the pardon only He can give. My Pages on Squidoo

Why do many disasters happen?

I have written in previous posts about disasters. In the case of Concorde, decisions by people, plus other factors were directly to blame for the event.  In the case of the Penlee disaster it may have been avoided if someone had made a better choice in the time beforehand and as a consequence brave men and the ship's crew and the captain and his family died. 9/11 was certainly the result of wicked men committing a terrorist act, but even in this there was heroism notably by another Cornish man, Rick Rescorla who helped many to safety and left it too late to help himself.  In situations like this we see what the human spirit is capable of both good and evil. What of disasters that come on people because of the earth restless movement of tectonic plates.  Often people live near volcanoes because the land is rich and fertile and they have the chance of a better life there when the volcano is resting.  We cannot blame them for that but sometimes people become complacent...

Optimism conquering experience

I watched The Detectorists tonight. I have not watched it before. It is about a group of people who use detecting equipment to discover old coins and other things of archeological interest. This was the last in the series and had a bitter sweet feel to it.  One of the main characters asked,"Why do we do it?" and the other replied,"This is the nearest you will ever get to time travel." You have to be an optimist to do metal detecting.  There is always the attraction of making a big find or an important discovery.  Among all the tin cans and coat hangers found there is the hope of a Saxon hoard, or Roman gold. Optimism keeps them going.

Always wanting something new

Every time I take a few days off from my blog my ratings slump.  Very rarely do people go back into my old posts and read again.  This is a typical attitude of the human heart, always wanting something different.  At this time of year we should not be greedily wondering want new thing we will be getting for Christmas.  Instead we should be looking at the old, old story, which is ever new of a baby who amazingly was God incarnate, God's gift to those who will put there trust in this one who was to grow up to give His life for His people.  Set aside the controversy over whether December 25th is the actual date of His birth.(Shepherds do not keep their sheep out at night in Israel in December.) and set aside time to think about the fact that He did come and ponder if He came to set you free and if your answer is ,"Yes," He will make you free indeed.
