How to improve your public speaking

We don't like having our presentation criticised by other people. I find the best way to improve my public speaking from the pulpit is to record the service with a small dictaphone and then criticise myself. I know the dictaphone is impartial so I have to believe what it tells me. For other tips on starting to preach look at this How to become a local preacher with the Methodist Church in the U.K.

  2. Hi FP I have received my results and am very glad to say I have passed section A. One exegesis was very good and one was just up to scratch. The other assignments were in between. This of course, encourages me to put more effort into section B which you might be assessing. Thanks for your interest.

  3. Hi Liz,
I am really pleased to hear that, if it's any consolation a number of the exegesis I marked this time were only just in the points for passing. I think one of the issues with exegesis is that they are not marked by the local tutor before being sent to London - my advice to any preacher on trial is to ask their tutor to cast an eye over them. The other thing I would always recommend is laying them out in the correct way as detailed in Faith & Worship.
Any way warmest congratulations and keep up the good work!

Life after death

When we lose a loved one it is natural to wonder how they are faring in the next life. I would warn against going to a medium to find out. At worst these people are charlatans after your money, the rest misguided or worse. We are told in the Bible not to try to reach the dead. The best person to call on in this situation is Jesus. That's right, go to the top. He is always available through prayer and doesn't make a charge. All he requires is that you look for him with all your heart. He has the answers to all of life's difficult questions.

Persecution of the sick in Britain

The British government, through the benefits system is persecuting thousands of people who are not fit to work, giving them very skimpy benefits. People who are not able to work for health reasons are not able to stand up for themselves. The goverment will answer to God when the suicides happen. People were treated in this way back in the Old Testament. Then exile was the result for the perpetrators. Something equally as bad will happen to those in power today. The churches should be aware that there are people in need and set up soup kitchens for these people. Many are in this position through no fault of their own. They should be helped not looked down upon.

Persevering

Sometimes it's hard to keep going with something we have started. A little setback can get in the way of trying to do something good. I want these thoughts to touch your heart and make you think things through. However as I cannot tell if anyone has read them unless you comment, I get disheartened and feel I am a voice calling in the wilderness. But who can tell who might light upon this page and be really encouraged or helped in their journey of life. If only one person was helped it would all be worthwhile. If you have been helped in any way by this blog do make a comment.I could do with some encouraging too.You can find more thoughts like these at this link A thought for each day
